Jorge Lorenzo, wearing his X-lite 802, took the win again in what proved to be an incredible race set in appalling weather conditions which caused many riders problems throughout the day.
On Saturday, official practice was cancelled due to heavy rain so the starting grid was based on Friday’s practice results which were also influenced by the weather.
Lorenzo, in his X-Lite 802 - which performed flawlessly, started on pole and let his team mate take the lead but as the track began to dry he quickly got past him. Then on lap 16, Lorenzo took the lead and maintained it for the rest of the race taking the win in superb style.
Casey Stoner (Nolan X-802) crashed out of the race on only lap 5 while pushing hard in 3rd position.
Marco Melandri (Nolan X-802) finished 9th due to technical problems which have troubled him all season and this talented racer has not had the chance to ride at his best throughout the year.
Carlos Checa’s return to MotoGP was disappointing for him as due to the weather he could not test the bike so started on the grid on a new bike with little practice. He unfortunately failed to finish coming into the pits with an arm pump problem with 15 laps remaining.
The final round of MotoGP will be held in Valencia on 7th November, 2010.
