Kyalami, South Africa, venue for the sixth race of the World Superbike Championship: Carlos Checa and his X-lite X-802 continues to amaze with his performances in a combative Championship. Following on from last weeks relatively poor performance in Monza evidently due to the top speed inferiority of his Ducati versus the four cylinder bikes, on the South African track, our Spaniard returns to the podium with an excellent 2nd position beating his 3rd in Superpole! Practice sessions pointed to success which Carlos duly delivered! A good start and excellent defence of position allowed Carlos to come within 1 second of race winner Fabrizio (Ducati Corse). Race 2 proved slighly harder due to the absence of grip, preventing Carlos from accelerating as hard as the competition from the corners. Eventually, he ‘settles’ for 5th position, better the points and to live to fight another day! The weekends results place Carlos back up to 3rd in the general standings. Bravissimo!
