SUPERBIKE: THE LAGUNA SECA CORKSCREW UNLEASHES VICTORY FOR NOLAN!

At such a memorable track it was a memorable weekend, particularly for Chaz Davies and any fans of his! After some time since his last win, to get not just the win in race 2, but 2nd in race 1 too, it

One of the most memorable tracks in the world, the Laguna Seca Round, has given us a memorable weekend with the victory of Chaz Davies, finally at ease with his Ducati V4. The Welshman also took the podium in Race 1 and at the end of the Superpole Race, confirming that he can compete with the best at this level.

Further significant results came from Michael Ruben Rinaldi, Tati Mercado and Marco Melandri well done to them. The latter of whom announced his retirement at the end of the season, the end of an era comes with it. Thank you to Marco for it all, but we want to reassure you, he will certainly not be leaving our family.

Now it’s time for the break in WorldSBK, much like the MotoGP has had, returning on September 6th at Portimao, in the meantime, enjoy your summer holidays. Let us know how they go!

SUPERBIKE

Chaz Davies Race1 SECOND

"The race was a decent one. On the grid I went with a soft rear tyre, which felt good in the early stages, but in the later laps it was just hanging on and I wasn’t able to find stability or grip and I lost contact with Rea. Despite this I’m happy about the result and feeling good about the races tomorrow. We have definitely made a right step forward this weekend and it’s great to be back on the podium again, for me and for the guys in my team because they’ve worked so hard to try and get me a good feeling with the bike."

Marco Melandri Race1 NINTH

"The race was a lot better than qualifying this morning, but I can't really be happy because I'm struggling a lot. There was a lot of traffic in the opening laps and anyway, even when I had a clear track, I couldn't ride how I wanted to. I just miss confidence and I couldn't find my line; it was so difficult. When the tyre dropped down, I felt a bit better because the bike was a bit softer, but still not ideal for me. I was fighting all the race, trying to do my best but it's not enough. Tomorrow we're looking for a top nine finish in the sprint race, but it won't be easy."

Michael Ruben Rinaldi Race1 TENTH

"Considering that it was my first race here and that we had several problems until this morning, this is a good result. Once again the team made a great effort giving me a bike in the race that allowed me to ride smoothly: the hard work done has certainly paid off. Something was missing in the first part, but I think it's normal since it was all new to me. In each round we were faster than the previous one so I think we can also improve in the pace for the two races tomorrow."

Chaz Davies Superpole Race SECOND Race2 FIRST

"This win really means a lot to me, because it’s been a long hard season so far. The last time I won was almost a year and a half ago and it gets to a point where you wonder whether you can still win or not. It’s just proof that if you keep plugging away and working hard then the results sooner or later will come and today was that day. Finally, we got it right, my team did an excellent job, in particular at the end of the FP1 session on Friday morning when we made a big change to the bike’s set-up. To be honest, I wasn’t sure I had the pace to win though, because Johnny’s pace in race 1 was strong and consistent while I chose the wrong tyre. Even so I wasn’t sure if this tyre would make the difference. I’m very happy and thrilled to get this result going into the summer break and we will all certainly celebrate tonight!"

Michael Ruben Rinaldi Superpole Race THIRTEENTH Race2 TENTH

"On a track that we did not know and very demanding we could not have high expectations so I am satisfied with the weekend. We have grown in every session and this confirms the goodness of our work. In these situations it is very easy to lose the right direction and make mistakes, which we did not do. Now we have a long summer break before the Portiamo tests in which we can best prepare for the weekend at the beginning of September."
