TOUGH WEEKEND AT THE BEAUTIFUL DONINGTON PARK, LEAVING OUR GUYS FEELING A LITTLE DISAPPOINTED

After hard fought races on a physical track the results weren’t quite as they’d hoped, whether that be for one reason or another. There was one big positive however, the performance of Tati Mercado was one that had not been predicted, congratulations to him on 6th place!

More good fortune in Supersport than Superbike, Federico Caricasulo fighting to the end for 2nd place, another good result for him.

Unlike the MotoGP there is no break, next up is Laguna Seca where we’re hoping the guys in Superbike can have a big impact!

But remember that to us the most important thing is you. Tell us about your motorbike holidays on our social media channels. They are open for you!

SUPERBIKE:

Tati Mercado Race1 SIXTH

"Sixth position today in race 1 after having started fourteenth! Happy with this result.

Thanks to Orelac Racing for the great job and everyone for the support !!

Tomorrow two more races."

Chaz Davies Race1 TENTH

"I just had very little grip throughout the race really. It seemed like the tyre wasn’t ready for the first five laps because I didn’t have any traction at all. It got a bit better than that but it took a few laps to get my pace then it stayed consistent throughout the rest of the race, but I wasn’t able to push anymore, because it felt like the rear was wanting to get away from me in the fast parts of the track. There were definitely slippery conditions out there today, but let’s hope tomorrow will be dry and we can come away with a better result."

Marco Melandri Race1 FOURTEENTH

"I don't really know what the problem was today, but in the wet the feeling was like I had no grip at all from the rear and I could not feel the connection with the track for the whole race. The bike was moving so much on the rear and there was no feeling at all. It meant the bike was impossible for me to ride today. It's strange because normally in the wet I'm fast but now, whenever there is a lot of water on track, I get lost. We will see tomorrow, when the conditions are expected to improve."

Chaz Davies Superpole Race SEVENTH - RACE 2 NINTH

"It was a really tough day. After the Superpole race, I was optimistic that we could potentially have a decent long race. We made some changes and felt the bike was a bit better. The start and the first few laps were good and I got up to fifth place, then things got a bit more difficult. After a few more laps my pace faded, because I had pretty bad arm pump as well. Donington is a bit of a strange circuit that requires a lot of physical effort; today things were tougher especially with me fighting the bike as much as I am. Unfortunately, there’s not much to be happy about after a weekend like this one, but now I can’t wait to get to Laguna, which is a track I like a lot."

Marco Melandri Race2 TENTH

"This was not a good weekend for us. After Misano I expected to have a much better feeling, especially here at Donington where I've had good results in the past. So, we were expecting a positive weekend here, but it turned out very different. I never really had a good feeling and I struggled a lot from the start. Either the bike doesn't like me, or my riding style doesn't suit the bike, so it's difficult. Yamaha and the team are working incredibly hard to help me find a solution and so am I, but we're still looking for the light at the end of the tunnel."

SUPERSPORT

Federico Caricasulo SECOND

"I started well and was up in the leading group. Up until mid.race I wasn’t very fast but I then increased my pace and set the fastest lap of the race. On the last lap I was really close to Cluzel and tried to attack him, but I saw I’d have to risk too much and so I focused on second place and the important points, especially considering Randy’s result. Now we’ll rest a little before the Portimao test. Big thanks to my team for having given me such a fast bike."
